Juventus defeat Napoli 3-1 in the Coppa Italia - Player Ratings

Napoli have never won in the Juventus Stadium and again lost to Juventus there on Tuesday, falling 3-1 in the first leg of a Coppa Italia semifinal.

Juventus opted to return to a three-man back line for the start of the match and predictably looked less potent than usual and even less defensively secure. As such, Napoli opened the scoring and controlled the first half to force Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri to change formations.

Armed with Juan Cuadrado, Juve took to the pitch in a 4-2-3-1 formation in the second half and immediately looked more comfortable.  To read more, click here.

Juventus preparing to host Napoli in the Coppa Italia

On Tuesday evening, Juventus will host Napoli at home in the Coppa Italia semifinal first leg and all eyes will be on Gonzalo Higuain and the potential lethality of the goal predator.

In the Argentine's first few league matches for Juventus, many wondered if Higuain was worth the large transfer fee the club paid for the player. While his lack of chemistry with Paulo Dybala was a concern, many critics also pointed out Higuain's size, and that he simply didn't possess the body of an athlete. Yet the grumblings didn't deter the striker who scored seven goals in his first 13 games for the club.

Juventus defeat Empoli 2-0 - Player Ratings

Juventus eventually wore down a good Empoli side to win 2-0 and open a 10-point gap at the top of the Serie A table. Empoli may not be the best going forward but they can be defensively impressive and managed to frustrate Juventus well, closing down effectively while maintaining possession in midfield to ensure Juve's impotency in the first half.

A slow tempo has been Juve's problem this season but the team stepped up a gear in the second half and Mario Mandzukic finally managed to score from the many crosses delivered into the box albeit with a lot of help from the opposing goalkeeper. A delightful finish from Alex Sandro soon after sealed another home win for the Bianconeri.

Allegri hoping to build upon Juve's win over Porto

All hail Massimiliano Allegri!

After Juventus defeated Porto, both the Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport praised the tactician who made two vital substitutions to guarantee the Old Lady's 2-0 victory at the Estadio do Dragao on Wednesday.

Despite relentless wins that resulted in first place in the Champions League qualifying group and in Serie A, the coach still opted to introduce a formation that could unleash the talent he boasts within the side. Since the first time Juve deployed the 4-2-3-1 formation, they have proved unstoppable, scoring a multitude of goals while improving upon their defensive solidity.

Porto defeated 2-0 at home by Juventus - Player Ratings

Juventus inflicted a first home defeat on Porto this season with a mix of maturity and composure to seal an excellent 2-0 result in the first leg of the teams round-of-16 tie.

A moment of sheer madness in the 27th minute saw Alex Telles sent off for two horrendous challenges, leaving the Portuguese side with only 10 men. Since that moment, Porto sought only to defend deep and in numbers to block Juventus from getting an away goal, while neglecting their offensive duties.

Lacking in ideas and playing at a tempo that would impress even the most patient of turtles, Juve struggled to penetrate as Porto closed off all the spaces.

Scouting Porto for their CL match against Juventus

The Champions League starts all over again for Juventus on Wednesday and the Serie A giants are expected to reach far, if not win, the entire competition. As one of the few sides from the top four leagues that boast domestic and European consistency, this could be the year Juve do something special.

Barcelona are stuttering, Paris Saint-Germain are being outscored by Monaco and Bayern Munich are being criticised for below-par performances in the Bundesliga. Juventus have, despite their flaws, proven that they can keep getting better, regardless of the many changes they have experienced.

Juventus host Palermo but Porto is on the brain

Juventus is hosting Palermo on Friday evening, but all anyone can think of is how Juve will fare in the Champions League against Porto on Wednesday. The recent midweek fixtures produced a few surprises, and while certain score lines grabbed the headlines, most would agree that no team has consistently proved to be brilliant.

Paris Saint-Germain looked convincing, but certain mediocre performances in the group stage and in the league have caused many to wonder if manager Unai Emery's team can keep it up. Barcelona were so poor that it's difficult to reach a definitive conclusion about their quality. Real Madrid proved that they can always be counted upon, yet their domestic form of late has brought up concerns as well, while Bayern Munich have defeated teams without breaking a sweat.

Another win and another clean sheet for Juventus as they defeated Cagliari 2-0 away from home to maintain their seven-point advantage at the top of the Serie A table.

Cagliari boast a good home record, having only lost two home games all season and against Juventus they proved why, working hard to block avenues and hinder their offensive opponent. The Bianconeri struggled to create any chances for much of the first half, looking impotent and uninterested.

Why Massimiliano Allegri is not ideal for Arsenal

When Antonio Conte chose to leave Juventus in 2014, the fans were left devastated.

They just lost their former captain and revolutionary coach, a man who took them from the depths of seventh place and turned them into champions. They went unbeaten in their first season under him but more than results, Conte created a culture of winning, demanding nothing but perfection.

But after three years, Juventus weren't enough for him anymore. Conte had set his sights on higher targets, wanting better players and bigger challenges to contend with. Juventus couldn't satisfy his demands and in his words, didn't have what it takes to win the coveted Champions League trophy.

Crotone lose 2-0 to Juventus - Player Ratings

It was a far from an enterprising performance from Juventus yet they still managed to walk away with a 2-0 victory over Crotone to open up a seven-point lead at the top of the table.

Crotone did an exceptional job at shutting down their opponents, flooding the defence and blocking off any space to avoid conceding but their hard work only lasted an hour. As soon as Juventus amped up the pressure and pushed forward with greater intensity, they eventually pierced through the defence and grabbed a quick second to seal all three points.

Juan Cuadrado decided the Derby d'Italia - Player Ratings

It took a sensational Juan Cuadrado goal to decide an open Derby d'Italia between two talented teams, as Juventus defeated Inter 1-0 to secure their 28th consecutive home win.

Boasting two of the finest squads in Serie A, the game started in an electrifying manner, with both sides creating opportunities. Inter opted to change their formation, flooding the penalty area to leave Juve's fortified attack with no space to exploit. However, Paulo Dybala still found a way to penetrate and came close to opening the scoring with a sensational bicycle kick, but it was Juan Cuadrado's missile from distance that put Juve ahead.

Juventus defeat Sassuolo 2-0 - Player Ratings

Once again, Juventus unleashed the 4-2-3-1 formation this week and grabbed their third consecutive win, defeating Sassuolo 2-0 in a comfortable match.

This Juve side has proved to be one that starts quickly and as usual grabbed the opening goal within the first few minutes of the game. By the 25th minute, they were 2-0 up and happy to coast to the final whistle as Sassuolo had seemingly lost belief in their abilities.

Improving upon their performance against AC Milan midweek, Juventus remained in control of the game and on the front foot, careful not to invite pressure from the home side.

Juventus beat Lazio 2-0 - Player Ratings

To mark his 300th Serie A match as coach, Massimiliano Allegri fielded a fearlessly attacking side to defeat Lazio 2-0 at home, their 27th consecutive home league win.

Unveiling a 4-2-3-1 formation, Allegri fielded a marvellous, dynamic side that started the match with a point to prove. Pressing high up the pitch and playing at a high tempo, Juventus needed just five minutes to open the scoring against a dumbfounded Lazio side. The Aquile have struggled to impose themselves in matches against the top clubs and Juve's energy and offensive might was simply too much for a Lazio team that is still developing and occasionally surrenders to intimidation.

Underrated Paulo Sousa proves himself to Fiorentina

The Corriere della Sera labelled it “A destructive fall” while the Corriere dello Sport insisted the title race had reopened. On Sunday evening in the Stadio Artemio Franchi, a league that thrives on schadenfreude wryly smiled as Juventus suffered their fourth defeat of the season at the hands of rivals, Fiorentina.

Dubbed inconsistent and mentally fragile, Fiorentina have been made to suffer this season. Coach Paulo Sousa was hailed a magician last term, as his side combined beautiful technique with wicked vertical speed to create a thrilling side. Yet in Italy, stability is a luxury few can savour and problems soon arose. Sousa was unhappy with the club’s dealings in the transfer market, while this year, there is a distinct lack of chemistry between coach and squad.
