Only last season, Fiorentina were lauded for their Spanish tiki-taka inspired style of play and their ability to accumulate positive results. Coppa Italia finalists, their project was succeeding and destined to only develop further, while the management of the club was looked upon as the example to follow.
Fast forward a few months and local newspapers were asking if tiki-taka was dead, and by November, several media outlets were wondering if Vincenzo Montella’s time was up. The club had started the season poorly, but there’s no denying the criticisms of both Coach and squad were too harsh and rather unjustified.
